Water Bottle Garden Plant Waterer Thingys
We are up and running with the garden stuff. Steph and I were trying to think of ways to keep our nice clay garden watered and I thought that I came across this idea somewhere, so if I stole it from you than I apologize. Let me know so I can give you credit.
To make these things:
1.) I took the used disposable 3 gallon water bottles from Sam's or whatever not the nice Culligan 5 gallon water bottles, the cheaper, but study ones, and cut the bottoms out of it.
2.) Left the cap on it and drilled 4 or 5 1/8 inch holes in the cap. I added some extra duct tape to the cap to keep it in place. I had one that didn't have the cap, so I took the bottom I cut out earlier and really duct taped it on and drilled holes in it like so...
3.) Dug a hole so the bottle would fit upside down with just about half of it would how so you could remember it was there.
4.) I filled it with water.
5.) It keeps my tomato plants happy.
6.) My wife is happy.
7.) Everyone's happy.

Hey! That's awesome! I have one corner of my clay patch that dries out almost instantaniously. That would be perfect!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea. I am the world's laziest garden waterer and i always expect half of my garden to die of thirst (the cucumbers have already died). I'm doing this today. Thanks!
I did this once by just using a gal milk jug, punching 1 small hole in the bottom (really, all you need is a very small hole) and then filling it up with water and leaving the cap off and setting it next to the plant.
Granted, it probably didn't go quite as far down as yours with the spout buried next to the roots-but on the other hand I didn't have to break out a drill
