Don't They Know We are Trying to Save Electric Here?

What does it take to get the kids to turn off their lights? Man, every time I go into their rooms', or a room they have been in, there is a light on. Most often the closet light int heir bedrooms. Well, except the girls' room where the closet light needs fixed, but you get the point. They leave lights on. It drives me nuts.

We've talked about charging them a quarter every time they leave a light on, but they share rooms, so how would that work? I can hear it now, "I didn't leave the light on, Vivian did. Take her quarter." Never mind Vivian can't even reach the light switch.

Kids, turn off the lights!

Try switching to those compact flourescent bulbs. It is actually cheaper to leave them on than turn them on and off. They last much longer than regular bulbs and they pay for themselves in energy savings in no time at all. A 15 watt flourescent bulb gives off the same light at a 60 watt bulb.
I learned about the value of them when the Today Show interviewed a guy who calls himself, "the cheapest man in America." He said that's his number one tip for saving money.
Hey! That might make a great Nifty-Thrifty Tip! Thanks!!
