Make it from Scratch #1 Venison pot pie or what ever you want to call it... I made dinner.

Today is Saturday, and this morning I hauled manure from the barn to John and Nina's Garden. It took three bucket loads and I still need one more to plop at the end on the garden for tomatoes and what not. It started to rain ( and continued the rest of the day, so I couldn't get to our garden spot) then after lunch and a movie(Cars) with the kids, I started dinner because Steph was working on so Festival of Families blog that she was hosting this week. I didn't really have anything in mind to make, but I thought I would find something. So I looked and I had a pound of ground venison, some shredded cheese and a can of vegetables and I made a simple crust from the Settlement Cookbook.
I know the can of mixed Veggies isn't made from scratch, but whatever.

Here's the crust:
2 cups of Flour
1/2 cup Shortening
1/2tsp salt
4 tsp butter ( I used Margarine because I rather eat butter straight on other things)
Ice water ( about 1/2 cup)

Mix the dry ingred. Blend in butter and shortening, add water roll to a ball refridge for a bit then roll to your hearts desire.

Here's the entire thing:
I didn't use all the meat, nor the entire can of veggies.

1/2 lb meat
can o' veggies
onion
some cheese
crust
seasoning

I browned the meat, with an onion, chopped, of course, while starting the crust, preheated the oven, I used Stephanie's muffin top pan. It went really easy. After I made the crust I put it in the fridge until the meat was almost finished, after the meat was finished, I rolled out the crust used a top from the yogurt container to cut out the crusts, because that was the exact size I needed for the muffin top pan, put a tablespoon on meat and a tbs. veggies and sprinkled some cheese and seasoned it with pepper and salt (why do people always say salt, then pepper?) and garlic powder. put the top crust on pinched it the edges with a fork, and to top it off, I beat an egg white and brushed it upon the top crust to give it a shine when cooked. That was it. The crust recipe I used made 12 of the sized crusts
I had made this before, but I didn't cut out the crusts, I just stuffed everything in and folded over the crust making it look like I cal zone type thing.

We added a baked potato as a side, and that was dinner. Thanks for looking... TTFN

Sorry it took me so long to comment. I read this yesterday and had a super busy day. This sounds really good! I might try it. I think I would prefer a little gravy in mine, though. Thanks for the recipe!
